VGC UmbreNews 08.09.2026 #31 - Champion was a 62-player online event on Limitless, played in Pokemon Champions Regulation Set M-B. The final round results listed eontheeevee defeating sammyyyyy, eontheeevee defeating die_kampfstube, and die_kampfstube defeating ilrepe, while the final standings were topped by Zemar12 [PT] at 8-1-0.
| Place | Player | Record | Team |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Zemar12 [PT] | 8-1-0 | Chesnaught, Incineroar, Basculegion, Gardevoir, Aerodactyl, Gholdengo |
| 2 | EonTheEevee [PL] | 7-2-0 | Sneasler, Lycanroc Dusk, Kingambit, Basculegion, Froslass, Scovillain |
| 3 | Toga6245 [PL] | 6-2-0 | Delphox, Palafin, Tsareena, Scrafty, Whimsicott, Venusaur |
| 4 | KST | KAMPFI [DE] | 5-3-0 | Eternal Flower Floette, Sneasler, Incineroar, Sinistcha, Kingambit, Garchomp |
Zemar12’s winning team is a flexible balance composition with both speed control directions. Aerodactyl provides Tailwind with Focus Sash and Unnerve, giving the team a fast mode alongside Rock Slide and Dual Wingbeat pressure. Gardevoir adds the slower angle with Gardevoirite, Trace, and Trick Room, while still threatening damage through Hyper Voice and Psychic.
The defensive backbone is also clear. Incineroar brings Sitrus Berry, Intimidate, Fake Out, and Parting Shot, giving Zemar12 repeated positioning tools. Chesnaught is a notable pick, using Leftovers, Bulletproof, Impish, Body Press, Wood Hammer, Wide Guard, and Spiky Shield. Wide Guard is especially valuable on a team that wants to manage board states while setting Tailwind or Trick Room, and Spiky Shield helps Chesnaught stay on the field long enough to create that pressure.
The main closing power comes from Basculegion and Gholdengo. Basculegion’s Life Orb, Adaptability, Adamant set with Aqua Jet, Wave Crash, Last Respects, and Protect gives the team immediate Water-type pressure plus priority. Gholdengo rounds things out with Choice Scarf, Good as Gold, and a broad attacking set of Focus Blast, Make It Rain, Shadow Ball, and Power Gem, fitting the team’s plan of converting speed control into decisive attacks.
Across the top teams, Basculegion was one of the clearest trends. It appeared on Zemar12’s first-place team, EonTheEevee’s runner-up team, IlRepe’s fifth-place team, and Sammyyyyy’s sixth-place team, most commonly alongside Wave Crash, Aqua Jet, Last Respects, and Protect. Sneasler was also heavily represented, appearing on the teams of EonTheEevee, KST | KAMPFI, Kaiden5345, and Jairo S, with Fake Out plus Close Combat pressure being a recurring theme.
Garchomp had strong top-eight presence as well, appearing on KST | KAMPFI, IlRepe, Sammyyyyy, Kaiden5345, and Jairo S. Incineroar remained a steady support option on Zemar12, KST | KAMPFI, and Jairo S, each using Intimidate and Fake Out. Kingambit also showed up on EonTheEevee, KST | KAMPFI, and IlRepe, all using Defiant and Sucker Punch.
Item-wise, Focus Sash and Life Orb stood out across several teams, while Sitrus Berry remained common on bulky support or pivot pieces. Mega items were spread across many archetypes, including Gardevoirite, Froslassite, Scovillainite, Delphoxite, Floettite, Charizardite Y, Aerodactylite, and Staraptite.
Takeaway for ladder players: prepare for Basculegion endgames, Sneasler Fake Out pressure, and teams that can switch between Tailwind and Trick Room modes.
