The winning team from entitysardo992 was built around a very clear sand core. Tyranitar with Tyranitarite and Sand Stream paired with Excadrill holding Focus Sash and Sand Rush gives the team immediate weather pressure, fast Rock Slide access, and double High Horsepower coverage. Tyranitar also carried Knock Off, Rock Slide, High Horsepower, and Protect, making it both the enabler and a direct offensive piece.
The rest of the team gave that sand mode several ways to stay active. Milotic used Sitrus Berry with Competitive and brought Scald, Icy Wind, Ice Beam, and Protect, giving speed control through Icy Wind while also punishing Intimidate-based positioning. Sinistcha added Colbur Berry, Hospitality, Matcha Gotcha, Shadow Ball, Protect, and Rage Powder, providing redirection and healing support around the main attackers. Staraptor with Staraptite, Intimidate, Close Combat, Brave Bird, Tailwind, and Protect offered a second form of speed control with Tailwind plus immediate physical pressure. Gholdengo rounded out the six with Life Orb, Good as Gold, Make It Rain, Shadow Ball, Nasty Plot, and Protect, giving the team a special attacking route that did not rely on sand turns.
Across the top teams, Kingambit was one of the clearest repeated threats. ZUKY187 used Life Orb Kingambit with Defiant, while Yegorushhka used Black Glasses Kingambit with Defiant; both carried Kowtow Cleave, Sucker Punch, Iron Head, and Protect on at least one variant of the set. Dragonite also appeared twice in the top four, with Luriss using a Life Orb Inner Focus physical set and Yegorushhka using Dragoninite with a special attacking spread of Dragon Pulse, Heat Wave, Thunderbolt, and Protect.
Focus Sash was also a common item among top teams. Excadrill, Basculegion, Alolan Ninetales, and Aegislash all used it in the top four, showing how much value players placed on guaranteeing at least one action from key offensive or utility Pokemon. Life Orb appeared on Gholdengo, Kingambit, Dragonite, and Garchomp, while Intimidate remained present through Staraptor, Scrafty, and Incineroar.
The top four also showed varied speed plans: sand with Excadrill, Tailwind from Staraptor and Talonflame, Icy Wind from Milotic, and Perish Song control from Gengar. Weather was not limited to the champion either, with ZUKY187 bringing Drought Torkoal alongside Chlorophyll Venusaur.
Takeaway for ladder players: build with a primary speed mode, but make sure the rest of the team can still function when that mode is denied.
