Valentijn’s winning team leaned into direct pressure, layered priority, and full-board flexibility. Kingambit was the central damage anchor, using Black Glasses, Defiant, Adamant, Protect, Kowtow Cleave, Sucker Punch, and Swords Dance. That set gave the team a clear late-game path: preserve Kingambit, find a Swords Dance opening, and close with boosted Dark-type attacks or Sucker Punch.

The rest of the team supported that plan without being passive. Sneasler brought White Herb, Unburden, Fake Out, Close Combat, and Poison Jab, giving Valentijn immediate tempo and a fast physical attacker once Unburden was active. Basculegion added Life Orb, Adaptability, Wave Crash, Last Respects, and Aqua Jet, making it another high-damage piece with priority. Lycanroc Dusk carried Focus Sash with Rock Slide, Accelerock, and Close Combat, adding yet another way to pick off weakened targets.

The two Mega slots on the team were especially notable. Scovillain with Scovillainite, Moody, Bold, Protect, Overheat, Giga Drain, and Rage Powder gave the team redirection alongside offensive coverage. Froslass with Froslassite, Cursed Body, Timid, Protect, Blizzard, Shadow Ball, and Taunt supplied speed, disruption, and spread pressure. Every Pokemon on Valentijn’s team had Protect, which made the composition hard to punish cleanly and gave it room to cycle through Fake Out, Rage Powder, priority, and setup turns.

Across the top teams, Kingambit was the clearest defining pick. It appeared on the teams of Valentijn, Rushikesh, EnricoVgc, GielBakker, Ayanakoji, and MrKiranVGC, most often with Defiant and either Black Glasses or Focus Sash. Sucker Punch and Kowtow Cleave were consistent parts of those sets, making Kingambit both a damage dealer and a strong endgame Pokemon.

Aerodactyl was another major presence, appearing with Aerodactylite on Rushikesh, EnricoVgc, GielBakker, and Ayanakoji. Rock Slide and Tailwind were common, while Unnerve was the listed ability on those Aerodactyl sets. Charizard with Charizardite Y also showed up repeatedly, including on Rushikesh, Noktuska, and GielBakker, generally paired with Weather Ball, Heat Wave, Solar Beam, and Protect.

There was also a clear appetite for tempo tools. Fake Out appeared on Sneasler and Incineroar sets, Tailwind appeared on Aerodactyl and Pelipper, and Wide Guard showed up on Aerodactyl, Pelipper, and Chesnaught. Basculegion appeared on both the first- and fourth-place teams, with Adaptability and Last Respects on both sets.

Takeaway for ladder players: prepare for Kingambit endgames, Aerodactylite speed control, and priority-heavy physical offense.
