Regulation M-C Puts New Mega Evolutions in the Spotlight
The Big Lead has published a Regulation M-C guide focused on the new Mega Evolutions in Pokemon Champions, with an emphasis on how players should approach them in battle rather than treating them as simple stat upgrades.
For competitive doubles, the key point is that a Mega choice usually defines the rest of the team. Because you only get one Mega Evolution slot, Regulation M-C building should start by asking what role that Mega is supposed to cover: speed control abuser, defensive anchor, immediate damage source, or matchup-specific breaker. From there, support picks need to patch its weaknesses instead of duplicating jobs.
This matters even more in Champions because the format is not Scarlet/Violet VGC with a different coat of paint. There is no Tera bailout, no Dynamax bulk swing, and no Z-Move burst option. Positioning, targeting, and SP investment have to do more of the work.
If you are testing Regulation M-C, expect early ladder teams to overcommit to flashy Mega damage. The better approach is likely to identify which new Megas force awkward defensive lines, then build around consistent board states that let them act safely.
