Play! Pokémon Events Move Toward Champions in Spring 2026

The official Play! Pokémon circuit is set to begin shifting its video game competitions to Pokémon Champions during April and May 2026, according to Pokémon.com.

For competitive players, the timing matters. This gives teams a rough window for when the supported ruleset will stop centering on the current main-series format and start using Champions as the primary competitive platform. Since Champions is a standalone doubles title with its own battle systems, preparation will not be a simple copy-paste from Scarlet and Violet VGC.

The biggest adjustment will be learning the new format’s team-building constraints and matchup flow. Champions does not use Terastallization, Dynamax, or Z-Moves, and its Stat Points system changes how players tune spreads compared with traditional EV and IV planning. Mega Evolution also returns as a central mechanic, including Champions-exclusive options.

Players aiming for late-season 2026 events should watch for exact tournament dates, eligibility details, and rules documents. The April-May transition window is the key takeaway for now: serious prep for Champions will need to start well before the switch is fully underway.
