JoMcCloud23’s winning team combined disruptive positioning with multiple endgame routes. Gengar with Gengarite, Shadow Ball, Sludge Bomb, Perish Song, and Protect gave the team a direct pressure piece that could also force progress through Perish Song. Politoed added a second Perish Song user while supplying Drizzle, Sitrus Berry, Weather Ball, Encore, and Protect, making it both a weather setter and a control option.
The support core was very standard for high-level Regulation M-C play: Incineroar with Chople Berry, Intimidate, Fake Out, Parting Shot, Flare Blitz, and Protect, alongside Rillaboom with Eject Button, Grassy Surge, Grassy Glide, U-turn, Fake Out, and Protect. That pair provided repeated tempo swings, Fake Out pressure, and pivoting support for Gengar, Archaludon, and Garchomp. Archaludon with Leftovers, Stamina, Dragon Pulse, Aura Sphere, Electro Shot, and Protect gave the team a durable special attacker, while Garchomp with Expert Belt, Rough Skin, Stomping Tantrum, Dragon Claw, Rock Tomb, and Protect supplied physical damage and speed control through Rock Tomb.
Across the top four, Garchomp was the clearest standout, appearing on all four teams with different items: Expert Belt, Garchompite Z, Choice Scarf, and Life Orb. Rillaboom appeared on three of the top four teams, and Incineroar appeared on the top two teams, reinforcing how valuable Fake Out, pivoting, and Intimidate-style board management were in this field. Volcarona also showed up twice in the top four, both times with Grassy Seed, though BatCoach used a Modest Quiver Dance set while Santi Gonzalez used a Bold set with Tailwind, Rage Powder, Struggle Bug, and Overheat.
There was also notable diversity in major centerpiece choices. BatCoach paired Garchompite Z Garchomp with Eternal Flower Floette, Gholdengo, and Volcarona. Quanxi used Charizardite Y Charizard with Whimsicott Tailwind support, plus Sneasler and Basculegion. Santi Gonzalez brought Froslassite Froslass, Glimmoranite Glimmora, Milotic, and a bulk-oriented Volcarona.
Takeaway for ladder players: prepare seriously for Garchomp, Fake Out pivot cores, and Perish Song lines when building for Regulation Set M-C.
