DrBananaMan’s winning team was built around a clear sand core: Tyranitar with Tyranitarite and Sand Stream next to Excadrill with Focus Sash and Sand Rush. Tyranitar’s Rock Slide, Knock Off, Dragon Dance, and Protect gave the team a central physical threat that could also pressure items, while Excadrill supplied fast damage with High Horsepower, Iron Head, and Rock Slide.
The rest of the team gave the sand mode multiple ways to play around speed and board position. Pidgeot held Pidgeotite and brought Tailwind alongside Heat Wave and Hurricane, giving the team a second speed-control option outside of Sand Rush. Sinistcha added Sitrus Berry, Hospitality, Rage Powder, Trick Room, and Matcha Gotcha, which made the composition less linear and helped it function into opposing speed control. Indeedee used Choice Scarf with Psychic Surge, Expanding Force, Mystical Fire, Trick, and Protect, while Sneasler paired Psychic Seed with Unburden and carried Close Combat, Dire Claw, Acrobatics, and Protect. That combination gave DrBananaMan a terrain-supported Unburden attacker alongside the sand offense rather than relying on only one mode.
Across the top teams, Sneasler was one of the clearest repeated picks. It appeared on DrBananaMan’s team with Psychic Seed, on emanuele12340’s team with Electric Seed, and on notbubbly’s team with White Herb. Unburden was present on all three of those Sneasler sets, though the item and move choices varied.
Weather was also prominent. DrBananaMan used Tyranitar and Excadrill with Sand Stream and Sand Rush, while Mystabloom and emanuele12340 both used Pelipper with Drizzle. Mystabloom paired Pelipper with Charizard holding Charizardite Y and Venusaur with Chlorophyll, while emanuele12340 paired Pelipper with Archaludon and Basculegion ♀ with Swift Swim. Archaludon with Leftovers, Stamina, Electro Shot, Dragon Pulse, Snarl, and Protect appeared on both the second- and third-place teams, with nature differences between the two.
Common support items showed up repeatedly as well. Focus Sash appeared on Excadrill, Venusaur, and Basculegion ♀ in the top three, while Sitrus Berry appeared on Sinistcha, Pelipper, and Incineroar across the top four. Rillaboom and Incineroar were present just outside and inside the top four, with notbubbly using both as Fake Out support pieces.
Takeaway for ladder players: Regulation Set M-C rewarded teams that combined a strong weather plan with a second speed-control or positioning mode rather than committing to only one engine.
