Pokémon Champions Launches on Switch and Switch 2

Pokémon Champions Launches on Switch and Switch 2

Pokémon Champions has officially launched for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, giving competitive players the first dedicated doubles platform built around the new Champions ruleset.

For PokemonHelper readers, the key point is that this is not a Scarlet and Violet ladder update or another VGC season using Paldea’s battle engine. Champions is its own competitive environment, with Mega Evolution in the format and no Terastallization, Dynamax, or Z-Moves. Team building also uses the Stat Points system rather than traditional EV and IV optimization, so early metagame prep will be more about learning efficient SP spreads than importing old training habits.

The Switch 2 release should also matter for players who care about performance and long-term tournament support, though the same launch window across both systems means the initial player base will not be split by platform availability. Expect the first few weeks to be messy as players test Mega options, speed benchmarks, and defensive SP thresholds in real matches.

We will be watching early usage trends closely as the launch meta starts to settle.
