ValkrixVGC Champions MonoType Challenge #01 results recap

The ValkrixVGC Champions MonoType Challenge #01 was played on 2026-09-05 on Limitless, with 31 players competing in Pokemon Champions Regulation Set M-B. The final round was therake vs aurelien7, with therake winning the event.

Place Player Record Team
1 TheRake [GB] 7-1-1 Hydreigon, Tyranitar, Grimmsnarl, Malamar, Kingambit, Incineroar
2 Aurelien7 [FR] 5-3-1 Garchomp, Dragalge, Dragonite, Dragapult, Archaludon, Drampa
3 TitanoPigro3 [IT] 6-1-1 Charizard, Aerodactyl, Gliscor, Gyarados, Staraptor, Corviknight
4 Willian Gomes [BR] 4-3-1 Gengar, Basculegion, Sableye, Mimikyu, Ceruledge, Aegislash

TheRake’s winning team leaned on a dense Dark-type core with multiple layers of pressure and positioning. Hydreigon carried Choice Scarf with Draco Meteor, Dark Pulse, Heat Wave, and Earth Power, giving the team immediate special offense and broad coverage. Tyranitar used Tyranitarite and Sand Stream, with Dragon Dance alongside Rock Slide, Knock Off, and Protect, giving TheRake a setup route that still threatened spread damage.

The support structure was just as important. Grimmsnarl had Leftovers, Prankster, Fake Out, Spirit Break, Scary Face, and Parting Shot, combining disruption, speed control, and pivoting. Incineroar added another Fake Out and Parting Shot user, this time with Sitrus Berry, Intimidate, Flare Blitz, and Darkest Lariat. That double pivot setup helped create turns for the team’s heavier attackers.

The other win conditions were direct and punishing. Malamar used Malamarite with Contrary, Superpower, Psycho Cut, Knock Off, and Protect, while Kingambit brought Life Orb, Defiant, Sucker Punch, Iron Head, Low Kick, and Protect. Between priority, item removal, setup pressure, and repeated stat manipulation from Parting Shot and Intimidate, TheRake’s composition had several ways to keep favorable board states while still threatening quick knockouts.

Aurelien7’s runner-up team was a Dragon-heavy lineup with Garchomp, Dragalge, Dragonite, Dragapult, Archaludon, and Drampa. Notable tools included Tailwind on Dragonite, Reflect and Dragon Cheer on Dragapult, Rain Dance on both Dragalge and Dragonite, and strong special attacks such as Draco Meteor, Electro Shot, Hyper Voice, and Thunder.

Across the top teams, several item patterns stood out. Life Orb appeared on TheRake’s Kingambit, Aurelien7’s Garchomp, TitanoPigro3’s Gliscor, and Willian Gomes’s Aegislash. Sitrus Berry appeared on TheRake’s Incineroar, TitanoPigro3’s Gyarados, and Willian Gomes’s Ceruledge. Focus Sash showed up on Aurelien7’s Dragapult, TitanoPigro3’s Aerodactyl, and Willian Gomes’s Gengar. Leftovers also appeared on Grimmsnarl, Corviknight, and Overqwil in the listed standings.

The broader top cut also showed a clear Fire trend outside the top four: Charizard appeared on TitanoPigro3, Devorentis, Jyesh, and Danipato16, with each using Charizardite Y.

Takeaway for ladder players: strong positioning tools like Fake Out, Parting Shot, speed control, and flexible damage items remained central even in a MonoType setting.
