Z Mega Evolutions Are Coming to Pokemon Champions Next Week

Pokemon Champions is getting a new Mega Evolution wrinkle next week, with Nintendo Insider reporting that “Z Mega Evolutions” are scheduled to arrive in the game’s next update.

For competitive players, the important takeaway is that this is not just another cosmetic addition. Mega Evolution is already one of the central mechanics separating Pokemon Champions from current Scarlet/Violet VGC, since Champions does not use Tera, Dynamax, or Z-Moves. Any new Mega category has the potential to reshape how teams are built, especially if these forms change speed control, defensive benchmarks, or common damage ranges.

Details are still limited, so it is worth waiting for exact stats, abilities, eligible species, and any restrictions before rewriting teams. The biggest questions are whether Z Mega Evolutions use the same slot pressure as existing Megas, whether they interact differently with held items, and how they fit into the 66-point Stat Points system.

If these forms are legal immediately in ranked play, expect early ladder volatility while players test whether they are matchup-defining or just narrow upgrades.
