MeganVGC’s winning team was built around steady speed control, strong special pressure, and several ways to punish common positioning. Whimsicott with Focus Sash, Prankster, Tailwind, Encore, and Protect gave the team reliable tempo control, while Moonblast meant it was not passive after setting speed. That support made it easier for Hydreigon, Gholdengo, and Glimmora to apply immediate damage with Life Orb Dragon Pulse, Dark Pulse, and Earth Power; Wise Glasses Flash Cannon and Shadow Ball; and Glimmoranite Sludge Bomb, Power Gem, and Earth Power.
The two Mega slots in practice were represented by Glimmora with Glimmoranite and Staraptor with Staraptite. Glimmora’s Toxic Debris gave the team a punishing defensive angle, while Staraptor added Intimidate before threatening Brave Bird and Close Combat. Roost and Protect on Staraptor also suggest it was not just a one-turn attacker, giving MeganVGC some staying power in longer board states.
Milotic rounded out the composition as a clear anti-Intimidate and anti-stat-drop piece with Competitive. Leftovers, Recover, Scald, Ice Beam, and Protect made it the most defensive part of the six, but it also created matchup pressure into teams relying on Intimidate cycling. Combined with Gholdengo’s Good as Gold and Nasty Plot, MeganVGC had multiple Pokemon that could punish opponents for taking slower, control-oriented lines.
Across the top 4, Kingambit was the most visible repeated pick, appearing on prncessdiana, Rheapon, and Fluna. Its sets were all aggressive Defiant variants, using Black Glasses or Life Orb with Kowtow Cleave, Sucker Punch, Iron Head, and Protect represented across the three teams. Garchomp also appeared twice near the top, both times with Life Orb and Rough Skin, though prncessdiana used Earthquake while Rheapon used Stomping Tantrum.
Basculegion was another major trend, appearing on both Rheapon and Fluna. Both used Adaptability and carried Last Respects plus Aqua Jet, with Rheapon opting for Choice Scarf and Wave Crash while Fluna used Focus Sash, Liquidation, and Protect. Aerodactyl also showed up twice in the top 4 as an Aerodactylite Tailwind user, giving both prncessdiana and Fluna fast Rock Slide pressure.
The item patterns were straightforward: Focus Sash appeared on Whimsicott and Basculegion in the top 4, Life Orb appeared on Hydreigon, Garchomp, and Kingambit, and Fairy Feather supported both Sylveon sets. Tailwind was also common, appearing on Whimsicott and both Aerodactyl teams.
Takeaway for ladder players: prioritize consistent speed control and bring clear answers to Kingambit, Basculegion, and fast Mega-enabled offense.
