Hugo’s winning team was built around layered speed and damage control rather than one narrow mode. Grimmsnarl with Light Clay, Prankster, Reflect, and Light Screen gave the team a clear defensive opener, while Parting Shot added another way to reduce incoming pressure and reposition. Pelipper supplied Drizzle, Tailwind, Wide Guard, and strong rain-boosted Weather Ball pressure, enabling Swampert with Swampertite to threaten through Wave Crash and Earthquake.
The most direct rain payoff was Swampert, but Archaludon also benefited from the structure. Leftovers, Stamina, Electro Shot, Dragon Pulse, Flash Cannon, and Protect gave it a bulky special attacker profile that could sit behind screens and punish teams that failed to remove it quickly. Sinistcha added Hospitality, Rage Powder, Trick Room, and Protect, giving Hugo a redirection piece and a slower-speed option when Tailwind was not the right route. Metagross with Metagrossite rounded out the team as a second Mega-capable physical attacker, using Iron Head, Psychic Fangs, Body Press, and Protect.
Across the top 4, Sinistcha was the clearest repeated support Pokemon, appearing on the first, second, and fourth-place teams. Its sets differed by item, with Coba Berry, Sitrus Berry, and Kasib Berry all represented, but the role stayed consistent: Hospitality support, Rage Powder, and Trick Room access. Charizard plus Venusaur also appeared twice in the top 4, with Bruno and Jordan both using Charizardite Y Charizard alongside Chlorophyll Venusaur.
Weather was a major theme. Hugo used Pelipper rain with Swampert and Archaludon, Antonio brought Torkoal with Drought, and both Bruno and Jordan leaned on Charizardite Y sun. The top 8 also included sand structures from Francisco Sousa and Diogo Amaral built around Tyranitar, Excadrill, and Houndstone. Common utility was equally visible: Tailwind appeared on Pelipper, Aerodactyl, Staraptor, and Corviknight, while Sitrus Berry showed up repeatedly on support Pokemon such as Sinistcha, Clefable, Incineroar, Spiritomb, Wash Rotom, and Houndstone.
Takeaway for ladder players: prepare for flexible weather teams that can pivot between Tailwind, Trick Room, redirection, and strong Mega-enabled attackers.
