osaka_vl’s first-place team was a sand offense shell with several layers of tempo control. Tyranitar with Tyranitarite and Sand Stream paired directly with Excadrill’s Focus Sash and Sand Rush, giving the team a clear mode built around fast Rock Slide pressure, Iron Head, and High Horsepower. Tyranitar also carried Dragon Dance, so the sand mode was not only about enabling Excadrill; it could become a win condition itself.
Staraptor added a second Intimidate user alongside an aggressive support role, using Staraptite, Close Combat, Brave Bird, Tailwind, and Protect. That gave osaka_vl another way to control speed without relying entirely on sand. Gholdengo with Life Orb and Good as Gold supplied immediate special damage through Make It Rain and Shadow Ball, with Nasty Plot giving it a route to punish passive turns.
The defensive glue was also important. Milotic’s Competitive punished opposing Intimidate while offering Scald, Ice Beam, and Icy Wind utility. Sinistcha rounded out the team with Hospitality, Rage Powder, Strength Sap, and Matcha Gotcha, giving the sand attackers more room to set up or attack safely. Kasib Berry on Sinistcha also stood out as a targeted survivability choice.
The clearest trend near the top was Tyranitar plus Excadrill. Both osaka_vl and juicemakesoranges used Tyranitarite Tyranitar with Sand Stream and Focus Sash Excadrill with Sand Rush, though the move choices differed slightly. Sneasler was another major presence, appearing on five of the top eight teams, with Focus Sash, Psychic Seed, and Electric Seed variants all represented.
There was also a strong Fake Out and redirection presence. Rillaboom, Incineroar, Sneasler, Raichu, and Indeedee ♀ all appeared in the top cut of the standings, while Sinistcha and Indeedee ♀ offered Rage Powder or Follow Me style support. Weather was broad rather than centralized: sand finished first and second, while Pelipper rain structures with Archaludon appeared in the middle of the top eight, and Y0SHY brought a Charizard and Venusaur sun mode alongside Pelipper.
Takeaway for ladder players: prepare for sand offense first, but do not ignore Sneasler, Fake Out cycling, and bulky setup support.
