Gym Leader GAUNTLET (Monotype Tour) results recap

Gym Leader GAUNTLET (Monotype Tour) was a 46-player online event on Limitless, played in Pokemon Champions Regulation Set M-C. The top standings were led by samurpo [CA], who finished 8-0-0. In the listed final round matches, darkcrow defeated uupsetted, potatolinguini defeated medaforcer, and potatolinguini defeated ariesxvgc.

Place Player Record Team
1 samurpo [CA] 8-0-0 Golisopod, Basculegion ♀, Pelipper, Swampert, Toxapex, Primarina
2 PotatoLinguini 6-2-0 Golisopod, Slowking, Basculegion, Pelipper, Swampert, Milotic
3 Ariesxvgc [VE] 5-2-0 Gardevoir, Indeedee ♀, Armarouge, Starmie, Espathra, Gallade
4 Liender M [BR] 5-2-0 Salamence, Charizard, Archaludon, Hydreigon, Garchomp, Altaria

samurpo’s undefeated team was built around rain pressure with a strong defensive backbone. Pelipper supplied Drizzle and extended it with Damp Rock, while also offering Tailwind, Helping Hand, Weather Ball, and Hurricane. That gave the team both speed control and immediate weather-based damage support.

The main damage core was Golisopod with Golisopite and Swampert with Swampertite. Golisopod’s Leech Life, Iron Head, and Sucker Punch gave it a mix of pressure and priority, while Swampert used Wave Crash, Earthquake, and Ice Punch to attack across common board states. Basculegion ♀ added a Focus Sash special attacker with Swift Swim, carrying Shadow Ball, Ice Beam, Muddy Water, and Protect. That set fit cleanly with rain while giving the team coverage beyond Water-type damage.

The support choices rounded out the composition well. Toxapex brought Leftovers, Regenerator, Toxic, Infestation, Baneful Bunker, and Wide Guard, giving samurpo a slower control option and protection against spread damage. Primarina with Sitrus Berry, Liquid Voice, Calm Mind, Hyper Voice, Moonblast, and Protect added a second special win condition that did not depend purely on rain turns.

Across the top teams, Water compositions were clearly prominent. The first- and second-place teams shared Golisopod, Basculegion, Pelipper, and Swampert, with PotatoLinguini using Choice Scarf Basculegion, Focus Sash Pelipper, and a Slowking with Trick Room and Helping Hand. uupsetted’s sixth-place team also used Golisopod, Pelipper, Basculegion, and another Water-heavy structure.

Psychic Terrain teams were another major theme. Ariesxvgc and Tricki both used Gardevoir, Indeedee ♀, Armarouge, and Gallade, with Expanding Force appearing repeatedly across those teams. Indeedee ♀ also appeared on Medaforcer’s and shaikhvgc786’s teams, showing how valuable Psychic Surge, Follow Me, Helping Hand, and Trick Room were in this field.

Item trends were straightforward: Focus Sash, Sitrus Berry, Leftovers, Life Orb, and Choice Scarf all appeared repeatedly across the top eight. The best teams leaned on familiar competitive tools: weather, Tailwind, Trick Room, Wide Guard, Follow Me, and strong Mega Stone attackers.

Takeaway for ladder players: prepare for rain cores with layered speed control, and do not skip answers to Psychic Terrain plus Expanding Force.
