Mateo Mendoza’s winning team was built around a clear Charizard and Venusaur axis. Charizard held Charizardite Y with Heat Crash, Weather Ball, Solar Beam, and Protect, while Venusaur used Life Orb, Chlorophyll, and a fast special attacking set of Protect, Leaf Storm, Earth Power, and Sludge Bomb. That pairing gave the team immediate offensive pressure into Water-, Ground-, and Fairy-adjacent targets while still preserving standard Protect positioning.
The rest of the team filled out the composition with disruption and flexible damage. Toxapex was a notable defensive pick, using Leftovers and Regenerator alongside Wide Guard, Infestation, Toxic, and Baneful Bunker. That set gave the team a slower control piece capable of blocking spread pressure and forcing awkward board states. Sneasler added Fake Out support and direct threat potential with White Herb, Unburden, Dire Claw, Close Combat, and Protect. Garchomp’s Choice Scarf set supplied fast physical coverage through Dragon Claw, Earthquake, Stomping Tantrum, and Rock Slide, while Sylveon rounded out the six with Fairy Feather, Pixilate, Hyper Voice, Yawn, Quick Attack, and Detect.
Across the top teams, several trends stood out. Chople Berry appeared multiple times on key support or Dark-type pieces, including Maushold on Ignacio Ramallo’s team and Kingambit on Daiky daikyh’s team. Focus Sash was also common in the upper standings, showing up on Hisuian Zoroark, Whimsicott, and Vivillon, with later top-eight examples including Ceruledge. Leftovers was another repeated item, attached to Toxapex and Gliscor in the top four.
Mega-style item choices were central throughout the field. The top four alone featured Charizardite Y, Salamencite, Houndoominite, Floettite, Scolipite, and Eelektrossite. That spread shows how varied the Regulation Set M-C field was: Charizard and Venusaur offense, Salamence with Gholdengo support, Houndoom with Whimsicott Sunny Day, and a bulkier Gliscor-Scolipede-Volcarona structure all reached the top cut of standings.
For ladder players, the main takeaway is simple: strong weather-aware offense still needs disruption, and Mateo’s team paired Charizard and Venusaur pressure with Fake Out, Wide Guard, Yawn, and Choice Scarf speed control.
