JurassicJoints’ winning team was built around a clear sand core: Tyranitar with Tyranitarite and Sand Stream next to Excadrill with Focus Sash and Sand Rush. Tyranitar’s Rock Slide, Knock Off, Low Kick, and Protect gave the team a physical anchor that could pressure common board states, while Excadrill added fast damage through High Horsepower, Rock Slide, and Iron Head once sand was active.
The rest of the composition gave the sand mode several ways to avoid being one-dimensional. Salamence carried Salamencite with Intimidate, using Hyper Voice, Draco Meteor, Flamethrower, and Protect as a special attacker with immediate damage coverage. Corviknight offered a slower, sturdier route with Leftovers, Mirror Armor, Tailwind, Roost, and Bulk Up, letting the team play for positioning instead of only racing with sand speed. Sinistcha added support through Hospitality and Rage Powder, while also carrying Matcha Gotcha, Shadow Ball, and Protect. Wash Rotom rounded the six out with Sitrus Berry, Levitate, Thunderbolt, Will-O-Wisp, Hydro Pump, and Protect, giving the team a bulky utility slot with burn pressure.
Across the top teams, speed control and redirection were major recurring themes. JurassicJoints had Tailwind on Corviknight, JayWarwick had Tailwind on Staraptor plus Trick Room on Indeedee ♀, and Bef used Trick Room on Farigiraf alongside Rage Powder on Vivillon. Follow Me on JayWarwick’s Indeedee ♀ and Rage Powder on both Sinistcha and Vivillon show how much the top finishers valued controlled setup and protected positioning.
Sneasler also stood out near the top, appearing on JayWarwick’s second-place team with White Herb and Unburden, and on Vuultur’s fourth-place team with Focus Sash and Poison Touch. Both sets used Close Combat and Dire Claw, though their support profiles differed: JayWarwick paired Sneasler with Protect and Rock Slide, while Vuultur used Fake Out and Coaching.
Sitrus Berry was one of the most common items in the upper standings, appearing on Wash Rotom for JurassicJoints, Farigiraf for Bef, and Incineroar for Vuultur. Focus Sash was also prominent, with JurassicJoints’ Excadrill, Bef’s Vivillon, and Vuultur’s Sneasler all using it. Life Orb showed up on JayWarwick’s Armarouge, Bef’s Venusaur, and Vuultur’s Kingambit, giving several teams a dedicated high-damage slot.
Takeaway for ladder players: have a plan for Sand Stream plus Sand Rush, but do not ignore the support pieces that let those cores choose when to attack.
