Izzywooperstan’s winning team was built around flexible pressure from several directions. Charizard with Charizardite Y, Modest, Heat Wave, Weather Ball, Solar Beam, and Protect gave the team a strong special spread attacker that could also target Water- and Rock-weak slots with Solar Beam. Whimsicott provided the fast support package of Focus Sash, Prankster, Tailwind, Encore, Moonblast, and Protect, letting the team operate aggressively while still threatening disruption.
The rest of the six gave the composition multiple ways to convert speed control into damage. Basculegion carried Mystic Water, Adaptability, Adamant, Wave Crash, Aqua Jet, Last Respects, and Protect, giving Izzywooperstan both immediate Water damage and priority. Garchomp added Life Orb, Rough Skin, Earthquake, Dragon Claw, Rock Slide, and Protect, pairing well with the team’s spread-pressure plan. Mawile with Mawilite supplied Play Rough, Rock Slide, Sucker Punch, and Protect, while Farigiraf offered Sitrus Berry, Armor Tail, Psychic, Thunderbolt, Trick Room, and Protect. Between Tailwind and Trick Room, the team did not rely on a single speed plan, and all six Pokemon carried Protect.
Across the top cut of standings, several patterns were clear. Basculegion appeared on six of the top eight teams, always with Adaptability and the core attacks Wave Crash, Aqua Jet, and Last Respects. Most of those sets used Life Orb, while Izzywooperstan’s winning version used Mystic Water. Garchomp was also on six of the top eight, with Rough Skin and a recurring Earthquake, Dragon Claw, Rock Slide structure; items varied between Life Orb, Sitrus Berry, and Choice Scarf.
Whimsicott remained the most common Tailwind support in the higher placements, appearing on four of the top six teams with Focus Sash, Prankster, Timid, Moonblast, Encore, and Tailwind. Charizard with Charizardite Y showed up on four of the top eight teams, including first, third, sixth, and eighth. Kingambit was another repeated pick, appearing on WeAreToast, Zenith 5, VGCDan, and Promkip, usually combining Defiant with Sucker Punch and Kowtow Cleave. Eternal Flower Floette with Floettite appeared on Zenith 5, Nervo2103, and Promkip, while Sneasler appeared on WeAreToast, Nervo2103, and Promkip.
Takeaway: For ladder players, the cleanest lesson is to prepare for Basculegion and Garchomp while respecting Whimsicott Tailwind teams that can still pivot into alternate speed control.
