ICPX’s winning team was a layered special offense built around Charizard with Charizardite Y and Glimmora with Glimmoranite. Charizard’s Modest set of Heat Wave, Weather Ball, Solar Beam, and Protect gave the team immediate spread pressure and strong weather-based coverage, while Glimmora added Sludge Bomb, Power Gem, Earth Power, and Spiky Shield with Toxic Debris. Together, they formed a flexible attacking core that could pressure common defensive pivots without relying on a single damage type.
The support structure was just as important. Whimsicott carried Focus Sash with Prankster, Tailwind, Encore, Moonblast, and Protect, giving ICPX speed control and disruption in one slot. Alolan Ninetales brought Snow Warning with Never-Melt Ice and a fully offensive utility set of Blizzard, Freeze-Dry, Icy Wind, and Protect, adding a second weather angle and more speed control through Icy Wind. Kingambit, holding Black Glasses with Defiant, supplied late-game priority through Sucker Punch alongside Kowtow Cleave, Iron Head, and Protect. Kommo-o rounded out the six with Life Orb, Soundproof, Clanging Scales, Aura Sphere, Vacuum Wave, and Protect, giving the roster another special attacker with priority access.
Across the top teams, Kingambit was the clearest repeated pick. It appeared on ICPX’s winning team, ToniTheBest’s fourth-place team, and also showed up at #5, #6, #7, and #8. Defiant was the listed ability on every Kingambit in the standings provided, with Kowtow Cleave appearing on each set and Sucker Punch appearing on most of them.
Weather was another major theme. ICPX used Charizard and Alolan Ninetales, Blaizhe paired Politoed with Swampert, and Dzhupito used Tyranitar with Excadrill. That gave the top three teams three different weather directions: Charizardite Y offense with Snow Warning support, Drizzle with Swampert, and Sand Stream with Sand Rush.
Focus Sash also showed up repeatedly as a way to stabilize key utility Pokemon. Whimsicott, Vivillon, Excadrill, Sneasler, Maushold, and Lycanroc Dusk all used it somewhere in the top eight. Tailwind was common as well, appearing on Whimsicott, Staraptor, Aerodactyl, and Talonflame.
Takeaway for ladder players: prepare for Kingambit and weather cores, and make sure your speed control plan works through Tailwind, Icy Wind, and priority.
