Weekend Qualifier for RookideeVGC Grand Tourney results

The Weekend Qualifier for RookideeVGC Grand Tourney was an 88-player online event on Limitless, played on Pokemon Champions Regulation Set M-B. The final round results featured magicaura defeating davel3, blackpierrevgc defeating j0l0k0, and magicaura defeating lecehlou, leaving magicaura at the top with a 10-1-0 record.

Place Player Record Team
1 magicaura [SG] 10-1-0 Garchomp, Kingambit, Sneasler, Sinistcha, Incineroar, Eternal Flower Floette
2 BlackPierreVGC [FR] 8-3-0 Aerodactyl, Kingambit, Charizard, Farigiraf, Garchomp, Sylveon
3 VoltTackleVGC 7-3-0 Swampert, Pelipper, Archaludon, Grimmsnarl, Charizard, Venusaur
4 LeCehlou [FR] 7-3-0 Raichu, Staraptor, Hisuian Arcanine, Farigiraf, Sylveon, Kingambit

magicaura’s winning team was built around a flexible balance core with multiple ways to control positioning. Garchomp carried Garchompite, Rough Skin, and an Adamant nature, using Rock Slide, Dragon Claw, Stomping Tantrum, and Protect as a direct physical attacker. Alongside it, Kingambit with Chople Berry and Defiant gave the team a strong late-game piece with Kowtow Cleave, Sucker Punch, Iron Head, and Protect.

The support structure was just as important. Sneasler provided Fake Out and Coaching while still threatening damage with Dire Claw and Close Combat from a Focus Sash set. Sinistcha added Hospitality, Rage Powder, Trick Room, and Matcha Gotcha, giving the team both redirection and a slower mode. Incineroar brought the familiar Intimidate, Fake Out, Parting Shot, and Helping Hand package with Sitrus Berry. The final slot, Eternal Flower Floette, used Floettite, Flower Veil, Dazzling Gleam, Draining Kiss, Protect, and Calm Mind, giving magicaura another route to sustained pressure instead of relying only on immediate physical damage.

Across the top cut of the standings, Kingambit was the clearest repeat pick. It appeared on the teams of magicaura, BlackPierreVGC, LeCehlou, Nycro3, and DaveL3, almost always leaning on Defiant and Sucker Punch. Garchomp also had a strong showing, appearing on the first, second, and sixth place teams, with both Garchompite and Life Orb represented.

Support patterns were also consistent. Sneasler appeared on three of the top eight teams, with Fake Out and Dire Claw present on each listed set. Sinistcha appeared for magicaura, Nycro3, and ReadyKnow, usually combining Hospitality, Matcha Gotcha, Trick Room, and Rage Powder. Incineroar remained relevant as well, appearing on three top-eight teams with Intimidate, Fake Out, and Parting Shot.

There was also notable overlap in item choices. Focus Sash showed up on Sneasler, Venusaur, Whimsicott, Hisuian Arcanine, and Sceptile, while Sitrus Berry appeared on Incineroar, Farigiraf, Pelipper, and Sinistcha. Fairy Feather Sylveon was used by both BlackPierreVGC and LeCehlou, each with Pixilate, Hyper Voice, Hyper Beam, and priority in Quick Attack.

Takeaway for ladder players: prioritize teams that can switch between Fake Out pressure, redirection or Trick Room support, and a reliable late-game attacker like Kingambit.
