Nightmare’s winning team leaned into a familiar Regulation Set M-B balance structure: fast pressure, layered speed control, and strong punishment for opposing positioning. Staraptor with Staraptite and Intimidate gave the team immediate physical disruption while still threatening meaningful damage through Close Combat and Brave Bird. Roost and Protect made it less of a one-turn attacker and more of a flexible pivot that could stay relevant across longer games.
Whimsicott was the primary support glue. Occa Berry, Prankster, and Timid enabled reliable Tailwind access, while Charm and Light Screen helped the team soften both physical and special pressure. That support opened the field for Garchomp, which used Choice Scarf, Rough Skin, and Adamant to apply fast spread and single-target pressure with Earthquake, Dragon Claw, Rock Slide, and Stomping Tantrum.
The back half of the team gave Nightmare several ways to punish common answers. Glimmora carried Focus Sash and Toxic Debris with Power Gem, Sludge Bomb, Earth Power, and Spiky Shield, making it awkward to remove cleanly. Kingambit used Chople Berry and Defiant with Kowtow Cleave, Iron Head, Low Kick, and Sucker Punch, giving the team priority, Intimidate punishment, and a sturdier endgame piece. Delphox with Delphoxite rounded out the composition as a fast special attacker with Heat Wave, Psychic, Encore, and Protect.
Across the top teams, Staraptor was the clearest headline pick. It appeared on each of the top four teams, always with Staraptite, Intimidate, and Jolly. Close Combat, Brave Bird, and Protect were also common, with Tailwind or Roost filling the last slot depending on the build. Kingambit was nearly as prominent, appearing on the first, second, and fourth teams, with Defiant giving those teams a direct way to capitalize on Intimidate-heavy games.
Focus Sash was another repeated item, showing up on Glimmora, Hisuian Arcanine, and Excadrill in the top four. Whimsicott plus Glimmora also appeared on both Nightmare’s and Mystabloom’s teams, while Garchomp was shared by Nightmare and Mystabloom as a core physical attacker. Sylveon appeared on X0funny’s and JogadorZero’s teams with Fairy Feather and Pixilate, giving both squads spread Fairy pressure through Hyper Voice.
Takeaway for ladder players: prepare for Staraptor-led speed control and Defiant Kingambit endgames when building for Regulation Set M-B.
